Coffee and Community
Cafe Cafe is a local community outreach of Tamarindo Ministries.  In an effort to connect with people in the community, we have created this "third space", a social environment that we utilize as an opportunity befriend and care for people in our area.  Whether it be offering help to newcomers adjusting to life in Costa Rica, or just trading stories with longtime locals, we pray and trust that these interactions will serve as opportunities for God to open doors of friendship and Christian witness.

Café Café
After holding worship services in town for about a year we found that, while there was some fruit born of our efforts, there weren't many church goers among the English-speaking locals in Tamraindo.  At that point, we felt God leading us to do more "relational/incarnational ministry".  It was out of this realization and experience that Cafe Cafe was born.  We opened in January of 2007, and the Cafe has successfully grown to be what we have hoped.... a place of social interaction with non-believers and believers.  Our hope is that by creating a space where this sort of interaction happens, relationships will eventually lead to people encountering Christ.  Many people have come to our church as a result of the Cafe, and many others have simply had the opportunity to encounter Christ (whether they realize it or not) through the volunteers/interns we have working here.

Connecting  w/ the Community
Ways that Café Cafe presently facilitates community connections:

  • Cafe/resturant- we become something like "bartenders/baristas" serving coffee to and socializing with our regulars.
  • Our book lending program for locals which includes, Christian books, family books, and childrens' books.
  • Our stock of New and Used Books for sale, Wireless Internet, A/C (a big deal down her), and of course serving Coffee, lunch, breakfast.
  • Collection of used clothing and school supplies to distribute to the poor in our area.
  • We have become host to a womens book reading group (secular and not sponsored by us) meets here once a month.
  • We host the Youth Group meetings for Beach Community church.
  • We have become a "social hub" for Christians living here and those visiting the area.
  • One additional way we hope to minister in the near future is by hosting English classes/tutoring for Costa Ricans.
